Troops of the Nigerian Army conducted a raid on an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) camp in Igboro Forest, Abia State, on Saturday. The operation was part of efforts to apprehend those responsible for the killing of five soldiers at Obikabia Junction in Aba last week.
According to a statement posted by the Nigerian Army on Sunday on X, the raid was part of Operation UDO KA. The troops aimed to arrest the killers of the soldiers and recover arms and ammunition from IPOB and its affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The statement read that the troops of Operation UDO KA conducted another successful clearance operation in Igboro Forest in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State. During the operation, troops encountered Improvised Explosive Devices, resulting in a minor injury to one soldier. The terrorists’ feeble firefight was adequately subdued with superior firepower, resulting in the neutralization of six members of the criminal terrorist group.
In addition to neutralizing six IPOB members, the soldiers recovered weapons, including three locally fabricated rocket-propelled grenade launchers, two locally fabricated artillery guns with tripods and bombs, and several Dane guns. Biafran flags and vehicles were also destroyed, and the camp was dismantled.
The Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA has urged Abia residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security forces to help eliminate criminal elements in the state and the wider southeastern region.
In related news, the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has increased the bounty on the killers of the soldiers from ₦25 million to ₦30 million. The state government said it is working with security agencies to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
