A Nigerian based in Canada, Kayode Stephen, has been accused of defrauding several individuals of millions of naira under the guise of providing certificates of sponsorship for care jobs in the United Kingdom.
According to report, many young Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad, particularly care jobs in the UK, have fallen victim to Stephen’s alleged fraudulent schemes.
The process involves obtaining a certificate of sponsorship, a document necessary for securing employment as a carer in the UK.
However, victims claim that despite paying Stephen substantial sums of money, they did not receive the promised certificates.
Reports indicate that over 1,000 Nigerians have been duped with fake employment letters and documents, leading to warnings from organizations like the International Organization for Migration (IOM) about syndicates offering fraudulent services to aspiring migrants.
Victims recounted their experiences, with one victim alleging that Stephen provided a fake certificate of sponsorship, resulting in a 10-year visa ban. Another victim claimed to have paid Stephen £8,000 for a CoS but received nothing in return.
Efforts to seek justice have been initiated, with victims collaborating to pursue legal action. However, Stephen has purportedly made partial refunds to some victims, but doubts remain about the legitimacy of his actions.
Law enforcement agencies have been alerted, with investigations ongoing to apprehend the perpetrator and recover funds for the victims.
