Applications from Nigerian students to UK universities have dropped significantly in 2024, with a 46 percent decrease reported by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).
This decline is attributed to the UK government’s recent policy changes aimed at reducing migration numbers.
The policy restricts international students, including Nigerians, from bringing dependants through the student visa route, leading to a boycott of UK universities by Nigerian students.
It was also reported that similar trends are observed among Indian students, indicating the importance of residency and family presence for international students during and after their studies.
