Nigerians are facing severe challenges affording transportation to work as petrol prices continue to soar. Following the removal of the fuel subsidy in May 2023, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) recently raised prices to N998 per litre in Lagos and N1,030 in Abuja.
Commuters report transport fares have quadrupled, making daily commutes unsustainable. Many are resorting to walking long distances, with some e-hailing drivers renegotiating fares directly with passengers due to unsustainable fuel costs.
Experts warn that further price hikes may be on the horizon, exacerbating the already high cost of living for many Nigerians.
