Nigeria’s Sand Eagles Set to Face Mauritania in Beach Soccer Qualifiers

After a five-year hiatus, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revived the Sand Eagles, Nigeria’s national beach soccer team. The team will face Mauritania in the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON) qualifiers, marking their return to international competition.

The Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations draw was held this afternoon, pairing Nigeria against Mauritania in a two-legged tie. The first leg will take place between July 19-21, 2024, and the second leg between July 26-28, 2024.

This qualifier is seen as a litmus test for the Sand Eagles, with high expectations from sports enthusiasts. The team will be selected from the Nigeria Beach Soccer League, and fans are eager to see if they can justify the NFF’s decision to revive the team.

The Sand Eagles have a rich history, having won the BSAFCON title in 2007 and 2009. Other qualifying fixtures for the 2024 Beach Soccer AFCON Qualifiers include:

  • Mauritania vs Nigeria
  • Guinea vs Senegal
