NPC Charges LGAs Comptrollers To Engage Stakeholders At Grassroots To Ensure Success Of 2023 Census

The National Population Commission, NPC, has urged Local Government Controllers to be fully acquainted with the operations of the 2023 Housing and Population Census to ensure its success at the grassroots.
The Federal Commissioner Representing Anambra State in the Commission, Sir Chidi Ezeoke, gave the advice while addressing Controllers from Anambra, Enugu and Imo States on Critical Census Processes, held in Awka.
Chief Ezeoke noted that the Controllers were key to the work of census functionaries such as enumerators and supervisors, hence the need for them to be rooted in the census processes.
He charged them to internalize the census publicity and advocacy strategies, as well as practical concepts of the census to help in disseminating the ideas effectively.
Chief Ezeoke noted that the idea of exposing Local Government Areas Comptrollers to critical training was because of their impact on people in various communities across the country.
The NPC Federal Commissioner, stressed that the success of the exercise would depend on the professionalism deployed by the comptrollers in supervising the training of the enumerators and supervisors.
Contributing, the Director of NPC in Anambra State, Doctor Joachim Ulasi, explained that for the census project to have a human face, there was need to involve all stakeholders.
Doctor Ulasi said the comptrollers were better positioned to engage community leaders to support the census.
He announced that over 12,000 enumerators and 2,000 supervisors would be engaged for the 2023 Census in Anambra State.
