The executive director of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency(NPHCDA) has lamented over the rate mischief makers misinform the public concerning Covid-19.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing on the progress of Covid-19 vaccination in Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja, he said that the creativity with which some people misinform others and spread misconceptions about Covid-19 vaccination calls for more deliberate , decisive and consistent steps to counter as well as provide correct and accurate information that wi help people to make informed decision to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Dr Shuaib said that Nigeria had made significant progress towards utilizing the 4 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine that was got from the COVAX facility, which has made Nigerian vaccine roll out the best in the African region.
He said that that as Nigeria is about to receive additional vaccine supply to commence phase 2 of it’s strategic vaccination plan, it has become necessary to confront the false theorists if Nigeria and the world will overcome Covid-19 and recover from its adversities.
He debunked the false theory being shared online that anyone who takes the vaccine will die after two years.
He said that two million, four hundred and ninety four thousand, six hundred and thirty two people have been vaccinated with the first dose, while, one million, three hundred and seventy thousand, one hundred and thirty people have received their second dose of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in Nigeria.
Contrary to rumours being spread online, health officials have stated that Covid-19 vaccine does not create any magnetic effect around the vaccination site or any part of the body and neither does it cause the body to light up an electric bulb.
Dr Faisal Shuaib, Executive National Primary Healthcare Development Agency clarified this at the weekly briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
Reiterating that Covid-19 vaccines do not contain any metal, he urged people to do more research on their own using credible information sources to avoid promoting ignorance in a time like this.
He assured Nigerians that the Presidential Steering Committee and the Federal Government is committed to providing safe and effective vaccination against Covid-19 in Nigeria.
He tasked Nigerians to follow the steps of the President and his team to take their own jab of the vaccine.
He also urged Nigerians to keep wearing their facemasks , wash their hands regularly and adhere to other precautionary measures against Covid-19 to avoid a third wave of the virus in the country
