Ogun Customs Impounds 2 Dangote Trucks With Several Bags Of Rice
Dangote Truck with registration number EKY 971 YE used for smuggling and currently parked at Customs Barracks Quarry, Abeokuta.
The Nigeria Customs Service Ogun One Area Command has intercepted two Dangote Trucks loaded with 303 bags of smuggled parboiled foreign rice and from other sources totalling 3,154 bags.
This was made known by the Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bamidele Makinde, during this Month’s Press Briefing at Idiroko, to highlight efforts of the Command in promoting socio-economic development and Trade facilitation in the state.
He said the intercepted bags of rice is equivalent to 5 trailers load.
According to him, a Truck with registration number EKY 971 YE, belonging to Dangote group of companies, loaded with 75 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each concealed with 900 bags of Dangote Cement was intercepted along Ibeshe road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Controller said similarly, on the early hours of Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022, another truck with Kano State registration number, BCH 531 XA loaded with 228 bags of Smuggled foreign parboiled rice of 5okg each concealed with bags of Dangote cement was intercepted along Lanfenwa, Abeokuta axis, in Ogun State respectfully.
Makinde maintained that if all the intercepted bags of rice were allowed into Nigerian market, it would be harmful to Federal Government Rice Policy which aimed at providing staple food at affordable prices and generate employment opportunities for the jobless Nigerians.
Comptroller Makinde further spoke on other recorded seizures during the period under review, pointing out that several other goods which include 150 pieces of used Compressor, 8 units of used vehicles as means of conveyances, 6 units of Motorcycles, 153 Bales and 68 Sacks of used Clothings impounded.
Others goods intercepted by the Customs Service, were 79 sacks of used shoes,11 cartons and 220 pieces of foreign wines, 301 pieces of used tyres, 724 Kegs of 25 litres each of petroleum products totalling 18,100 litres, 310 cartons of Frozen poultry products and 16 sacks of used bags.
According to him, “Aside from proactive operations in checking illicit trade in Idiroko Border, the Command also engages in non-kinetic activities whose objective is to make the area conducive for economic activities to thrive.
