The incoming President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced plans to delay the ban on TikTok through an executive order. The order, which he says will be issued after he takes office on Monday, is aimed at providing time to negotiate a deal for the U.S. to acquire a 50% ownership stake in the Chinese-owned app’s American operations.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump explained that his “initial thought” is to create a joint venture involving TikTok’s current or new owners, with the United States holding a significant share in the arrangement.
He emphasized that the delay in implementing the ban is intended to secure a favorable deal for the U.S. while addressing security concerns surrounding the popular video-sharing platform.
