On Foreign News,

A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Taiwan today, causing buildings to sway in the capital city of Taipei. The US Geological Survey reports that the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 11 kilometers in the sea, southeast of Yilan county.

The tremor, which hit just after 5 PM local time, prompted Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration to issue mobile alerts urging residents to stay calm and seek cover.

Despite the shaking felt across Taipei, Taiwan’s National Fire Agency confirmed that there were no reports of major damage.

Taiwan, located between two tectonic plates, frequently experiences earthquakes.

This latest quake follows a deadly 7.4 magnitude earthquake in April that claimed 17 lives and caused significant damage in the eastern city of Hualien.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation, but no further aftershocks have been reported.
