Tragedy struck in Brazil as an airplane carrying 62 people crashed in Sao Paulo state, leaving no survivors.

The ATR 72-500 aircraft, operated by Voepass, was en route from Cascavel in Parana state to Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport when it went down in the city of Vinhedo.

Local media captured images of the plane nosediving at high speed before crashing in a residential area, resulting in a large column of smoke.

The city government of Valinhos confirmed the grim news, stating that there were no survivors.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva also acknowledged the crash during a speech, noting the tragic loss of all 58 passengers and four crew members. Emergency teams, including firefighters and police, have been deployed to the site as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
