On Foreign News,

Former President Donald Trump lashed out on Friday, targeting his opponents with angry comments. This comes after what he called a “very unfair” trial, marking him as the first former U.S. president to become a convicted felon. Trump, remains neck and neck with President Joe Biden in the 2024 White House race and confirmed his intention to appeal the conviction.

Trump harshly criticised Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the trial, calling him a “tyrant” and accusing him of “crucifying” witnesses. Trump also attacked Biden and illegal immigrants, claiming they include many terrorists and criminals.

On Thursday, a jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, which Trump feared would harm his 2016 presidential campaign. Prosecutors argued this was part of a broader scheme to deceive voters.

While Trump faces a potential prison sentence, probation is more likely. Sentencing is set for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump is expected to receive the party’s nomination.

The conviction doesn’t prevent Trump from continuing his election bid but adds unpredictability to the contest. Following the verdict, his campaign launched a fundraising appeal, claiming Trump is a “political prisoner.” The campaign reported raising $34.8 million, crashing their website from the influx of donations.

In addition to the New York case, Trump faces three more serious criminal indictments related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and mishandling top-secret documents. These cases are unlikely to go to trial before the November election.
