African champions, Nigeria’s D’Tigress, showcased their prowess in the first game of the 2023 FIFA Women’s AfroBasket, securing an impressive win against Democratic Republic of Congo.

The defending champions exhibited their strength throughout the match, finishing with a commanding lead in all four quarters.

D’Tigress dominated the game, defeating DR Congo with a remarkable scoreline of 69-35. They displayed consistent performance, outscoring their opponents in every quarter. The first quarter ended with a score of 16-8 in favor of Nigeria, followed by 13-10 in the second, 17-14 in the third, and a stunning 23-3 victory in the fourth quarter.

Under the guidance of Coach Rena Wakama, the only female coach at the 2023 Afrobasket, D’Tigress will take on Egypt in their next match on Monday, July 31.

Nigeria holds an impressive record in the FIFA Women’s AfroBasket Championship, having secured the title five times, with a total of 11 titles trailing only behind Senegal.

The 2023 tournament, held in Kigali, Rwanda, will run from July 28 to August 6, promising exciting basketball action from top teams across Africa.
