Zambia’s football association expressed “surprise” at the claims of misconduct against their women’s coach, Bruce Mwape, at the ongoing World Cup.
FIFA has launched an investigation into the “allegation of misconduct,” which reportedly involves Mwape rubbing a player’s breasts inappropriately after a training session.
FIFA confirmed that a complaint had been received and stated that they take any allegation of misconduct seriously and have a process in place for reporting such incidents.
Zambia’s women’s football setup has faced allegations of improper conduct in the past, prompting investigations. During the World Cup, Mwape denied the allegations, calling them “fake” and rejecting calls for his resignation.
New Zealand Police were informed of the alleged incident during the World Cup but concluded that no further action was required. Despite police and FIFA involvement, the Football Association of Zambia claimed they were unaware of any recent complaint from players or their delegation.
