A tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, April 28th, along the Igbariam axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra State, resulted in the death of one male adult and serious injury to another individual. The fatal crash occurred when a speeding driver of a Sienna Bus collided with a motionless faulty truck.
Confirming the details, ARC Charles Iyiegbuniwe, Staff Officer of Public Education at the Anambra State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), stated that the crash involved a Truck BENZ 1513 (registration number UKP381ZU) and a green Sienna belonging to LIVETH VATTEN LTD with registration number KRD429AG.
The crash involved a total of 10 individuals, comprising 7 males and 3 females. An eyewitness Mr. Rufus Chime reported that the driver of the Sienna bus failed to notice the stationary truck ahead and was unable to control the speed, resulting in the collision.
Before the FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene, sympathizers had already rushed the injured victim to Toronto Hospital, while the deceased was taken to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital’s mortuary in Amaku, Awka.
Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi , while commiserating with the family of the deceased, cautioned motorists, to use signs of caution to other vehicles when their own breaks down. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of reducing heavy loads to levels manageable by both vehicle and driver, and ensuring vehicles are maintained in roadworthy condition at all times.
Furthermore, Commander Irelewuyi stressed that the most effective means to reduce crash fatalities is by adhering to controllable speed limits while driving.
