In a recent statement, Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has voiced his support for part-time legislature at both federal and state levels.
Speaking on his verified Facebook page, Kalu argued that this move would reduce governance costs and increase public trust.
Kalu said that they can sit for three months to amend the constitution and then meet four times a year, with emergency sessions as needed.
Kalu also suggested that a regional government could further cut costs amid Nigeria’s economic challenges. He emphasized the need for laws supporting these changes to help the country’s financial situation.
He said that regional governance would mean fewer ministers and legislators, saving money for Nigeria.
Contrary to popular belief, Kalu stated that Nigerian senators are not overpaid and called for a constitutional amendment to establish part-time legislative sessions as it would build trust and provide relief for Nigerians.
