
The Zone 13 of the Nigerian Police, Ukpo, Anambra State has arraigned a traditional cabinet member of Ukpo community, Ikechukwu Nwabueze before a magistrate court for allegedly obtaining money from an unsuspecting member of the public under the guise of being an aide to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone.
The prosecution presented a seven count charge against the suspect adding that the court detain the suspect on the grounds of the gravity of the offence for which he was being charged.
The defence council, however told the court that the issue involving his client was politically motivated and meant as a form of intimidation, further asking the court to grant bail as his client was, besides being a cabinent member in Ukpo, also a bishop nominee in Nnewi diocese, as well as a reputable character that will not jump bail owing to his pedigree.
The magistrate, M.N Ibeneme, after listening to both arguments, eventually granted bail to the suspect with a surety of 1 million naira, 3 years tax clearance paper and residency within the jurisdiction of the court.
The case was adjourned to the 23rd of October 2020 for witnesses to appear before the court.
