During a visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Google Global Vice President, Mr. Richard Gingras, was assured by President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria’s commitment to support Google in generating one million digital jobs in the country.
Emphasizing the creative and motivated young talent in Nigeria, President Tinubu recognized Google’s capabilities and tools that can empower the youth, especially in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
President Tinubu also acknowledged Google’s efforts in promoting free speech, freedom of the press, and democracy through its platforms, asserting the importance of not hindering these principles.
In response, Mr. Richard Gingras expressed his inspiration by the creativity and talent of Nigerian youth embracing technology to enhance access to information and democracy.
He conveyed Google’s deep interest in Nigeria and readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government, promising to assist in safeguarding the nation against disinformation and fake news.
The Google Vice President was accompanied by Mr. Adewolu Adene, Government and Public Affairs Manager for Google in West Africa, and Mr. Dapo Olorunyomi, Premium Times Publisher, during the visit.
