President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The delegation, led by Archbishop Lucius Ugorji, included Bishop Matthew Kukah and Cardinal John Onayikan.
While the agenda was not disclosed, the meeting follows Nigeria’s recent designation by the US as a Country of Particular Concern over religious freedom issues. The Bishops also criticized the government on insecurity, unemployment, and economic challenges.
In response, the Presidency acknowledged the concerns but insisted that Nigeria has made progress under Tinubu’s leadership, citing improved security, economic stability, and increased food production.
