President Bola Tinubu has submitted a letter to the Senate requesting confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff. The request complies with Section 218(2) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act.
Oluyede, appointed Acting Chief of Army Staff on October 30 after the illness and passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has extensive military experience. A graduate of the 39th Regular Course, he previously served as the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps in Kaduna.
The President lauded Oluyede’s professional integrity and leadership, emphasizing his ability to enhance national security. Oluyede’s career spans key operations, including ECOMOG in Liberia and Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast. His service has earned him multiple awards for excellence.
