Prof. Charity Ifeyinwa Emelie emerges New Chairman Red Cross Society, Anambra Branch

Prof. Charity Ifeyinwa Emelie of Faculty of Law, Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University, has emerged the new Chairman of the Red Cross Society, Anambra State Branch.

Prof Emelie emerged the winner following the election tagged, “Renewing Our Commitment To The Fundamental Principles” held on Saturday, 16th December, 2023, at the State Red Cross Branch Headquarters, Awka.

In her acceptance speech, the new State Red Cross Chairman, thanked God for the victory, adding that her first step would be to create awareness and ensure that the right thing is done always.

She promised to lead by example adding that as the Head of Department of the Law Faculty of the university for over five years, she is ably ready, qualified and capable to effectively hold the position.

Prof. Emelie further spoke on team work to achieve desired results, pointing out also that as a mother, team work and delegation of responsibilities would be her watchword.

In his submission, the Red Cross National Legal Adviser, Barrister Dikwa Muazu, who led the other National and Zonal officers to conduct the election, asserted that the Red Cross Constitution and Guidelines were strictly adhered to in conducting the election, which he described as very peaceful.

Reacting to the report that some members walked out before the conclusion of the election, terming it “Selection and not Election”, Barr Muazu, refuted the claim, pointing out that some of the candidates did not scale through the screening process as they defaulted by not renewing their annual fees for up to three or four years as stipulated in the Constitution.

The Red Cross National Legal Adviser, therefore, affirmed that it was Election and not Selection, and added that Nigeria Red Cross Society is a disciplined international humanitarian organization.

Also speaking, the National Branch Development Adviser, who is also the Director News, Ebonyi Broadcasting Corperation, Chief Emma Nworie, reminded the new executive that the strength of the Red Cross Society are the Branches, while the strength of the Branches are the Divisions, and urged them to strengthen their Branches and Divisions.

He added that they need more members to generate more funds and create more feasibilities

The newly elected members were sworn in immediately after the election.
