A Professor at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof Steve Ibenta, has emphasized the need for Igbo political leaders to speak with one voice to remain politically relevant in Nigeria.
Prof Ibenta made the appeal in Awka while answering questions from journalists on Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s 100 days in office.
He observed that Prof Soludo is a visionary leader and also has the competences required to achieve the goal of an efficient and prosperous economy for the state.
Therefore, he should not be judged prematurely, especially considering the state of insecurity and level of moral and physical degradation in the country.
Prof Ibenta also said the program of a prosperous and livable megacity entails that the entire state should be declared a planning area to reverse the present crippling, unplanned and dirty slums that called cities, adding that his will require mobilization of huge human, and financial resources as well as serious planning.
He also said that politicians should study the recent political revolution by the youths across the country which has introduced a new dimension in Nigerian politics.
The university don, the desire of the youths and the suffering masses of the country for an efficient and productive economic system is in line with the vision of a prosperous homeland.
In his opinion, APGA, for its survival as a party, should reach a form of accord with Labour Party to assuage the yeanings of the suffering masses of Nigeria for political and economic reforms, which will also maximize the political future of the Igbo race in Nigeria.
