The Association of Resident Doctors at the Specialist Hospital Jalingo, Taraba State have embarked on an indefinite strike action.
This comes months after signing a memorandum of understanding with the state government concerning the welfare of doctors in the state.
The ARD President, Ahmed Gabriel, who disclosed this to journalists on Friday, blamed the decision on the inability of the state government honouring its part of the agreement.
According to him, the doctors are unhappy with the inadequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) made available for the doctors.
He pointed out that Taraba has not recorded any deaths since the outbreak of the virus, a feat he attributed to the resilience of the health workers within the state.
He however regretted that the state government has not honoured its agreement by paying the COVID-19 inducement allowance for health care workers, the non-implementation of the reversed Hazard Allowance and the non-implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage.
Ahmad also claimed that more than 25 health workers were exposed to COVID-19 pandemic and the poor state of the system had caused majority of the doctors employed in the state to leave for greener pastures.
Adding that even with the second wave of Covid 19 no medical health worker has been paid, he emphasized that the major demand of the body is the implementation of the MOU it entered into with the government.
