Resident Doctors Suspend Warning Strike
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has directed its members to resume work, after a seven-day nationwide warning strike following the abduction of their colleague, Dr Ganiyat Popoola, on December 27, 2023.
Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre, Kaduna, was kidnapped alongside her husband and nephew.
Her husband was later released in March, but Popoola and her nephew remained in captivity.
The Reason doctors then embarked on a seven-day warning strike on Monday, August 26, to press for the rescue of Popoola,
However, on Thursday, August 29, the Federal Government threatened to invoke the “no work, no pay” policy for the striking resident doctors, but they said they were not moved by the threat.
The doctors have now resumed work following the completion of their 7-day warning strike, and said that they would review the Federal Government’s commitment towards resolving its demand in the next three weeks.
