The National Democratic Front, or NDF, is expressing serious concerns over political interference in Nigeria’s judiciary, urging Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to act. The NDF warns that political influence could destabilize both the judiciary and the administration of President Bola Tinubu, with particular risks for Rivers State.
In a statement by spokesperson Engineer Ikenna Ellis Ezenekwe, NDF criticized what it sees as compromised court rulings, including orders affecting monthly allocations to Rivers State. The group noted that blocking these funds could disrupt essential services like health and education, especially in rural areas. Tensions have also escalated due to conflicting rulings related to the defection of 27 state assembly members, creating division over their legitimate seats.
The NDF cautions that if political influence within the judiciary remains unchecked, public trust will erode, potentially threatening national stability. The group calls on Justice Kekere-Ekun to protect judicial independence and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.
