On the Foreign Scene

Scotland’s only oil refinery, Grangemouth, will close in the second quarter of 2025, marking the end of its 100-year history.

Petroineos, the joint venture that owns the refinery, announced the closure due to competition from newer, larger refineries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

This shift will see the refinery transition into a fuel import terminal, reducing the workforce from 475 to just 75 employees. The company says this move will safeguard Scotland’s fuel supply.

The mission saw the completion of over 40 experiments, focusing on human health and satellite communication.
