The Nigerian Senate has formed a six-member ad-hoc committee to investigate allegations against Senator Oyelola Ashiru of Kwara South, made by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The NDLEA claims illicit drugs were found during a raid on Ashiru’s home, following his critical remarks about the agency’s integrity during a recent Senate debate. Ashiru has denied the allegations, calling them a smear campaign and asserting they are retaliatory for his comments on NDLEA’s operations. The committee is expected to summon NDLEA officials and report back within a week.
