The Anambra State Shuttle Bus Drivers Forum (ASRBDF) has appealed to Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State for protection against individuals who are causing trouble for them. According to the group’s Secretary, Mr. Akubilo Ifeanyi, they are facing harassment and extortion from these troublemakers, known as “Agboro,” despite being banned.
He said the agberos are unlawfully collecting money from the bus drivers throughout the state, resulting in both financial losses for the drivers and the government. They expressed their frustrated as they are burdened with excessive taxes due to the agbero’s activities.
They also expressed
dissatisfaction with government enforcement teams, some of which are not properly identified, causing confusion. They urged the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) to assist them in identifying the correct enforcement team and payment account.
He also shared that their members have brought up cases in which enforcement teams apprehend individuals who haven’t paid, extract money from them, release them for daily work, and then persistently demand money from them the next day.
Furthermore, he noted that the shuttle drivers had earnestly requested the governor to create public parks designated for their loading needs.
Comrade Osita Obi, the organizer of the gathering, assured the shuttle drivers that he is prepared to support them in connecting with individuals who can alleviate their challenges. He encouraged them, however, to initially participate in the Soludo digital tax program by consistently making timely payments.
He stressed the importance for shuttle drivers to judiously pay their tax obligations to the government and gradually present their concerns to both the governor and relevant government bodies.
