
Anambra State Governor-elect, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has sent congratulatory message to Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, as he celebrates his 89th birthday anniversary
In a statement from his media office signed by Joe Anatune, Prof Soludo said it gives him utmost joy and happiness to join the nation and the people of Anambra State to rejoice and celebrate with Chief Emeka Anyaoku on his 89th birthday.
The Governor-elect described Chief Anyaoku as an international icon and exceptional diplomat who has distinguished himself as one of the most respected diplomats in the world
He said Chief Anyaoku’s exceptional qualities as a fine career-diplomat of the first order, became evident when he was elected as the third Commonwealth Secretary-General, thus becoming the first Nigerian, the first African and the first blackman to occupy the exalted postion of the Commonwealth of Nations Secretary-General
Soludo further stated that Chief Anyaoku’s remarkable display of brilliance and penchant for excellence and hardwork propelled his meteoric rise at the Commonwealth, culminating in his reaching the apex of the organisation
The Governor-elect commended the celebrant’s achievements as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, describing it as numerous and outstanding; especially in the areas of helping member nations in facilitating and strengthening democracy, rule of law and accountable governance
Soludo further recalled Chief Anyaoku’s inspiring role during the Apartheid regime in South Africa, describing his positive leadership role in securing the end of Apartheid as highly remarkable and worthy of commendation
On the home front, Soludo noted Chief Anyaoku’s selfless contributions to the peace and unity of the country and his home state, Anambra State, equally remain highly commendable
Professor Soludo prayed God to grant the celebrant long life in good health and more years of service to humanity and fatherland
