The South East Caucus of the National Assembly has condemned the ethnic profiling of Igbos amid the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests.
Leaders Eyinaya Abaribe and Igariwey Enwo criticized the targeting of Igbos despite their decision to abstain from the protests, as advised by their leaders.
The protests have turned violent in some northern states, with curfews imposed and casualties reported.
The South East caucus expressed frustration over scapegoating of Igbos, citing inflammatory online content such as the “Igbo Must Go” hashtag and posts from ‘Lagospedia’ on X (formerly Twitter).
They warned that such profiling is dangerous and reminiscent of historical conflicts, urging security agencies to address the hate speech and calling on Igbos to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
