In defiance of a court order, the State Secret Service (SSS) has once again arrested Godwin Emefiele, the suspended CBN governor. This second arrest took place following a confrontation between SSS officers and agents from another federal agency, the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), both fighting for custody of Mr. Emefiele.
The court had previously instructed that the NCS should hold Mr. Emefiele in custody until he fulfilled his bail conditions of 20 million naira, a directive that the SSS chose to ignore.
On Tuesday, the court had issued an order for the NCS to take custody of Mr. Emefiele until his bail conditions were met.
However, the SSS officials claimed to possess a separate court order that justified their decision to rearrest him.
