The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved a 50% increase in telecom tariffs, a decision met with strong opposition from the National Association of Telecoms Subscribers (NATCOMS) who plan to sue the NCC for not consulting them beforehand.
NATCOMS President Deolu Ogunbanjo criticized the hike, stating it exacerbates existing economic pressures on consumers and businesses, including rising fuel and electricity costs.
While telecom operators had initially sought a 100% increase, the NCC said it’s decision aims to balance operational costs with consumer affordability
