On The Foreign Scene

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov appeared in a French court on Sunday after being arrested at Paris’s Le Bourget airport on Saturday night. Durov, who holds both Russian and French citizenship, was detained following an arrest warrant issued by France’s OFMIN, which is investigating him for alleged offenses, including fraud, drug trafficking, cyberbullying, organized crime, and promotion of terrorism.

The Russian government has accused France of refusing to cooperate after Moscow demanded access to Durov, who is known for his strong stance on user privacy and independence through the Telegram messaging app. An investigating magistrate will decide whether to extend Durov’s detention or release him.

Meanwhile, prominent figures like Elon Musk have voiced support for Durov, with Musk tweeting #FreePavel.
