Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that the terrorist group that attempted the failed coup in 2016 against him in Turkey are currently in Nigeria.
Erdogan who is in Nigeria on a two-day visit made this known through an interpreter on Wednesday at a media briefing in Abuja.
The 2016 coup which is described as a significant event in Turkey’s history had led to the death of over 200 people, while more than 2,000 other persons sustained injuries.
Erdogan while speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, said his country is willing to offer necessary supports to Nigeria to assist her in the country’s fight against insurgency and other armed groups.
He said that Turkey has been closely monitoring the developments unfolding in Nigeria particularly the terrorist organisations, armed gangs, and the marine bandits which he said, are continuously active in Nigeria and that Nigerian authorities are continuously fighting against them.
He added that In order to cooperate further in the fields of military defence and security, Turkey is doing everything that will be available and benefit both countries .
According to Erdogan, the perpetrator of the heinous failed coup of July 15, FETO, is still illegally active in Nigeria. And we are continuously sharing our intelligence with the Nigerian authorities.
He revealed that he hope and pray that Nigerian as their brothers will forge closer solidarity in this field with Turkey for a better positive result.
