The Awka women have been called upon to embrace peace and to continue to uphold the unity of the community.
This was contained in a speech delivered by Mrs. Cordelia Nwosu, also known as Madam Ghana, the President General of Umuokpu Umukwa in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area during the end of the year party of Umuokpu Umukwa over the weekend at Umukwa town hall.
Madam Ghana praised the women that gathered to celebrate as one body during the event. She said that their aim of coming together is to make Awka town, especially Umukwa village great again.
Madam Ghana said that their meeting usually comes up every first Saturday in the month and as the year comes to an end, they gathered together to thank God for His mercies and kindness upon them and to pray for greater year of 2023.
In her interview, Mrs Mary Okafor, the financial secretary of Umukwa praised God for being with them through out their meeting and have come to draw the curtain for the year 2022. She prayed that God shall keep them alive to witness the new year of 2023.
In their separate interviews, Mrs, Caroline Utazi, Mrs Nwatoka Okafor and Mrs Nwatoka Nwezeako praised the president general of Umuokpu Umukwa, Mrs. Cordelia Nwosu for her good leadership and also working for the progress and unity of Umuokpu Umukwa village. They called on the women to continue to give the President General all the supports she needed to ensure unity and continued development of the community.
Highlights of the event were prayers and thanksgiving to God for how far He has led them.
The women were treated to sumptuous local meals too .
