The Lagos judicial panel has awarded the sum of N10 million to the family of late Kolade Johnson.
Johnson, who was a victim of police extra judicial killings was shot during a raid by police officers at Onipetesi area in Lagos, while watching an English premiership match back in March, 2019.
The incident sparked one of the most prominent movements against police brutality after an outrage on social media, which led to the trial police authorities identified Ogunyemi Olalekan, a police inspector, and Godwin Orji, a sergeant;
Olalekan was later dismissed from the force after he was found guilty, while Orji was acquitted.
However on Friday, Doris Okuwobi, the chairman of the Lagos panel of inquiry into police brutality, set up on the backdrop of last year’s #ENDSARS protest announced the compensation.
The award sum was received by the mother of the deceased.
Thirteen petitioners — including Johnson’s family — were compensated with a total of N83 million at the sitting on Friday.
