In a statement made public by his media office in Abuja, Dr Chris Ngige said that his attention has been drawn to the fictitious reports in the social media linking him to the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The report of such reports alleged that Senator Ngige and the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu visited the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mrs Catriona Laing, to discuss the affairs of IPOB as supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Minister in his defence said that his courtesy visit was in no way connected to Kalu’s ordeal. The Senator said that he paid a courtesy visit to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on the 13th of May, where he coincidentally met the British High Commissioner and her officials with whom he exchanged pleasantries and left after some group photographs were taken.
The statement also said that the Minister, who is someone who has gained enough experience as a public servant, knew better than to meddle into the Foreign Affairs extradition and security matters that clearly fall within the mandate of the Nigerian⁴ diplomatic Missions, national intelligence agencies.
Governor Ngige said that the allegation by IPOB was a ploy to get him involved in the discussion of the Issue of Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest, which neither subtracts nor add any value to the trial process as he was neither the Minister of Police Affairs, Justice, Foreign Affairs nor the National Security Adviser.
It will be recalled that IPOB’s Spokesman,z Emzmza Powerful had earlier last week claimed that DR Chris Ngige was among those who conspired and sabotaged Kanu to safeguard their selfish political and business interests.
