
Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano on Monday announced that the new International Conference Center, Awka, will on 17th March play the venue of the swearing-in of Governor-elect, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
Recall Alex Ekwueme Square has over the years, almost since 1999 been the venue of swearing-in of all successive governor’s in the state.
The ICC is another legacy project of Governor Willie Obiano’s administration.
Governor Obiano stated this during an inspection visit to the venue of the project accompanied by some government officials and cabinet members of the Traditional Ruler of Aguleri.
Speaking to Newsmen, the governor hinted that his motivation for the architectural design of the project is the popular ‘American Still Jet’ which moves silently. He explained that it is one of the best in the American military arsenal, expressing his belief that it is a replica of an average onye Anambra.
The Governor further pointed out that with the airport in place, the Center will be viable and put to use all year round.
Speaking on maintenance and sustainability plans for the project, Governor Obiano hinted that the contractor will be the facility manager upon completion of the project so as to initiate and sustain maintenance of the place, affirming it is the only way the ICC will last just like the airport and stadium.
The Contractor of the project, Mr Mark Tu who explained that the centre has a seating capacity of between ten thousand and twelve thousand persons at once, explained that they are rounding off the ceiling and lighting work and about to commence the final painting for the building.
