Cries and wailing pervaded the atmosphere at No. 3 Agudosi street, Adjacent to Nkpor Junction, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra state, following the alleged shooting to death of the only son of the Nnamani family, Master Afamefuna Oluchukwu Nnamani, during face-off following a land dispute.
The two sisters to the deceased, Chidinma and Amara Nnamani, said that they got the information about the death of their only brother from the social
media.
According to them, it was in the social media that they learnt about it and it was like in a dream when they saw the corpse, and if not for the attire he was putting on, they would not have believed he was dead because it was the clothes he was wearing when he left home on a fateful day, Saturday, 26th June, being clean up day
They said on arrival at the scene of the incident which was adjacent to Afor-Igwe market, Umunachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area, they saw the corpse and started crying to high heavens.
On inquiry as to the cause of his death, they were told that it was a land matter.
And that an indigene of the community engaged their brother to aid him to protect his land from rampaging youths of Umunachi community who were fighting over ownership of the land with the man, and in the process, the boy was gunned down.
Confirming the incident, the President General of Umunachi Town Union, Chief Chike, advised the reporter to also contact the police for details, adding that it is a criminal matter.
A senior police officer at the police station where the matter was lodged who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident as the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, was not on seat when the reporter went there.
The Police officer further revealed that the matter has been transferred to the State Intelligent and Investigation Bureau, SIIB, for further investigation
