For the third time, the Senate has asked for the sack of Service Chiefs . The first and second calls were made in January and July respectively.
Kasim Shettima, who led the debate said that against the impression that Government officials claim that insurgents have been technically defeated, Security agencies have not been able to quell the insurgency affecting the Borno region.
In the discussion that ensued , lawmakers condemned Saturday’s massacre as well as other killings in the country.
Senator Ali Ndume said called for need to find the Nigerian military as the share Weapons among themselves at the war front. He also called for the resignation of the service chiefs if they are unable to control the insurgents.
Senator Babba Kaita from Katsina said that the President’s best was not good enough if there are no visible results and also called for investigation into how the funds allocated to the military is spent.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele also said that it is time for Buhari to lay off the Service Chiefs. He also said that if the President doesn’t let them go, thy should , in overriding public interest, resign.
At the close of the sitting, the lawmakers urged the president to take immediate actions to restructure and remodel the country’s security architecture and provide adequate state of the art weapons and equipment for effective use in combating the insurgents.
They also asked the president to probe allegations and leakages within the security structure.
