Three Former RSMN IMPEX Employees Arraigned for Alleged ₦1 Billion Theft
The Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has arraigned three former employees of RSMN IMPEX LIMITED for allegedly stealing products worth ₦1 billion from their employer.
The accused persons are.. Fatai Adebayo, Adewale Adebayo, and Sodiq Olagunju.
They were brought before Justice Ismail Ijelu by the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigeria Police on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecution, the defendants conspired to steal 8,000 cartons of Lude Polish between 2019 and October 2024, while working for RSMN IMPEX LIMITED.
They were charged under Sections 516A and 390(7) of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
During the arraignment, Dr. Emmanuel Jackson, the head of SFU’s legal team, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendants in custody pending the conclusion of the case.
He also informed the court that the prosecution had three witnesses to testify against the accused.
In response, defense counsels Rufai Akanbi and Olanrewaju Adeniyi, representing the first and third defendants, informed the court that they had filed bail applications, pleading for the court to grant bail on liberal terms.
However, Christian Adogba, counsel for the second defendant, stated that he had yet to file a bail application and requested a short adjournment.
Dr. Jackson did not oppose the bail request but raised concerns about the defendants being flight risks, noting that their arrest required tracking devices.
In his ruling, Justice Ismail Ijelu granted bail to the first and third defendants in the sum of ₦5 million each, with two sureties in like sum.
One surety must be a family member, while the other must be a civil servant of at least Grade Level 14.
The case was adjourned for further proceedings.
