The Presidency has debunked claims by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido that President Bola Tinubu supported the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election.

In a statement on Sunday, Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga described the claim as false and revisionist.
Lamido, in a Television interview, alleged Tinubu backed the annulment under the Babangida regime.
The Presidency, however, insisted Tinubu opposed the annulment and supported civil resistance, even at personal risk. Tinubu’s role in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), formed in May 1994, was also highlighted.
The statement expressed disappointment at Lamido’s attempt to rewrite history, noting Tinubu’s mother, Alhaja Mogaji, was never aligned with pro-annulment movements.
