Tipper drivers in Onitsha, Anambra, staged a protest on Tuesday, blocking the expressway leading to and from the Niger Bridge, citing alleged extortion by state government agents.
Efforts by military personnel to dismantle the roadblock proved futile as the drivers remained adamant. Onodugo Onochie, a representative of the Tipper Drivers Association, expressed frustration over being extorted in Anambra despite the poor condition of roads where they load sand.
Onochie stated that they want clarity on the fees they are expected to pay, be it daily or weekly, rather than being charged each time they pass.
The blockade highlights ongoing grievances among drivers and calls attention to the need for transparent fee structures to alleviate tensions and ensure smoother operations.
