The traditional ruler of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, has condemned the recent attack on some Igbos by suspected hired political thugs whose mission was to prevent them from registering for their permanent voters cards ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Igwe Egwuonwu while reacting to the ugly incident, urged the federal government to rise to the occasion to ensure that such disturbing incident was not allowed to rear its ugly head again.
The Royal father noted that every eligible voter has the unfettered right to obtain his or her PVC in any part of the country unmolested.
He urged Nigerians to make it a matter of priority to obtain their permanent voters cards to participate effectively in next year’s general elections.
In his community Umuawulu, Igwe Egwuonwu said he is mobilizing, using all available means to sensitize the people on the importance of the voting exercise.
On his part, a former Chairman, Anambra state Chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, Barrister Emmanuel Okechukwu Junior, expressed dismay over the treatment meted to the Igbo registrants in Lagos.
According to him, Igbos should make every effort to obtain their PVCS to vote for leaders of their choice in next year’s general elections.
He frowned at the terrible political situation in Nigeria and queried the glaring and obvious intention to undermine the integrity of the Igbos.
Barrister Okechukwu junior expects the Igbos to speak with one voice and take a bold stand on their political future.
