Tragic Accident in Anambra Leaves Many Dead

A tragic accident which occurred on Sunday morning along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in the Idemili South Local Government Area left at least, some people dead and many others injured .

It was said a trailer lost control and crushed two tricycles at Oba, resulting in numerous casualties.

The crash, which happened around 9 am, involved victims who were on their way to church. Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer’s brakes failed, causing it to ram into the tricycles and pushed them into a ditch.

An eyewitness, Amaka, said that the accident occurred as revenue collectors stopped the tricycles for money. The oncoming truck, which had failed brakes, rammed into the tricycles, pushing them into a ditch. Some victims fell into the ditch, while others were run over. She said it was a terrible sight.

Emergency responders arrived to assist the injured and retrieved bodies. As of the time of filing this report, five individuals have been confirmed dead, with search efforts continuing.

A viral video circulating online showed the aftermath, with bodies and wreckage strewn across the road.

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State, led by Sector Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the accident and noted that details are still being gathered. Local authorities are investigating the cause of the brake failure and the role of the tax collectors in the incident.
