The Minister of Works, Mr David Umahi said that the traders on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, which is still undergoing rehabilitation, risk jail as he ordered the arrest of persons trading on the completed section of the Aba axis of the road.
Expressing his disappointment over the activities of the traders, the Works Minister who was inspecting the project in Aba, the commercial city of Abia state, ordered his security details to arrest the erring traders with a strong assurance that the offenders would be charged to court according to the laws of the land.
The minister while answering questions from newsmen, however, expressed his satisfaction with the job done by the contractor. He stated that the project, which was first awarded about 10 years ago, had yet to be completed because of the high cost of construction materials.
President Bola Tinubu has declared an oil sector shake-up to improve transparency in the face of dwindling oil revenue and sharp practices at the NNPCL.
Before now, NNPCL was completely in charge of crude oil sales and only reported to the federal government.
Though, critics have long argued that the structure lacked transparency, which allowed the NNPCL to underreport earnings.
The new directive according to sources will require the NNPCL to submit all receipts for crude oil sales to the apex bank for vetting and documentation.
This measure is aimed at closing any potential gaps in reporting and ensure accurate records of oil revenue.
