
Umuada Agulu held a peaceful protest in Agulu on Wednesday, 13th January.
The protest which took them round Agulu town was a walk against the Caretaker Committee being imposed on them by the state government, describing it as a setback on Agulu and capable of disrupting the peace of Agulu citizens by the imposition of the Caretaker Committee on the good people of Agulu.
In a report by out correspondent, Marvelous Ezenwa, the protest was headed by the president of the Umuada Agulu, Mrs Janette Oyoho, Vive President Mrs Susanna Okonkwo, Secretary Mrs Anthonia Egolu and PRO Mrs Rita Anajemba.
According to Mrs Janet Oyoho, Agulu Peoples Union, on the 30th of December, 2020 , conducted a free, fair and peaceful election that brought executives to office. The result had Chief Oliver Afamefuna (OLIBEST) as President General(PG) , Hon Barr Sylvester Okeke as the 1st Vice President General, Mr Emeka Okafor as the 2nd as the second Vice-president general, Ezie Charles as the National Secretary, Dr Duezeh Emmanuel as Financial Secretary , Chinazo Onwuazombe as publicity secretary, among others.
The protest which lasted for three hours took the women from Agulu town hall to His Royal Highness Igwe Innocent Obodoakor’s palace and further to Afor Market, Nwagu Roundabout, Ezinano Roundabout, Nkwo Market, Eke Market and Agbwu Junction . The women were heard praying and chanting peace songs while also pronouncing Olibest as their president General.
Our reporter Marvelous also stated that the women laid their left hands on the ground as they prayed against any form of distraction from any caretaker committee, while also condemning the actions of the Anambra State Government on the matter.
The Umuada Agulu while still describing Agulu as a peaceful community, called on state government to bring back the cordial relationship between Agulu citizens. They also asked Governor Willie Obiano not to delay in bringing peace back to the community
