UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is “causing massive suffering and devastation” at a meeting chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
During the meeting, Beijing also attempted to appease furious European officials after China’s ambassador to France questioned the sovereignty of ex-Soviet states.
Recall that Russia currently holds the monthly rotating presidency of the UN Security Council and organised the meeting as one of the “signature” events of its tenure.
