The National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed outgoing Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities to hand over to their most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, in line with regulations governing the administration of Federal Universities.
In a letter dated May 27, 2024, the Acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Chris J. Maiyaki, informed Vice-Chancellors that they are not to remain in office beyond their designated terminal dates.
The letter stated that this measure is to ensure a smooth transition in the leadership of the Universities, maintaining stability and continuity for effective administration and academic performance.
Outgoing Vice-Chancellors are requested to provide a detailed handover report documenting key activities, ongoing projects, University assets, financial statements and any other pertinent information.
The letter also read that the Federal Ministry of Education and respective University Senates must be notified of the handover before the terminal dates. He also said that the Ministry appreciates the contributions of all outgoing Vice-Chancellors and anticipates their cooperation in ensuring a smooth transition process.
