On Friday, Allyson Felix finished third in the 400 metres to win her 10th career medal and become the most-decorated woman in the history of Olympic track.
The 35-year-old Felix, a stalwart of American track and field, started in the outside lane and outraced Stephanie Ann McPherson of Jamaica to take third place by .15 seconds.
Italy won the men’s 4×100-meter relay to give Marcell Jacobs his second gold medal of the Tokyo Games.
Jacobs won the men’s 100-meter title last Sunday in the first Olympics in the post-Usain Bolt era and was part of the team that won the sprint relay in a national record 37.50 seconds.
Mexico beat Japan 3-1 on Friday to win bronze in football at Tokyo 2020. The Tricolor were three goals up by the hour mark, with goals from Francisco Cordova, Johan Vazquez and Ernesto Vega, putting the game beyond any reasonable doubt.
The win secured Mexico’s second ever Olympic medal in football.
Jovana Prekovic has won a gold medal in karate – in the -61kg category – after defeating the People’s Republic of China’s Yin Xiaoyan. The Serbian was world champion in 2018, as well as European champion earlier this year.
Two Belarus team coaches have been removed from the Olympics, four days after they were involved in trying to send sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya back to their country.

Antonella Palmisano made history for Italy on Friday, after winning the women’s Olympic 20km race walk in just under one hour and a half. It’s the first time in history that Italy have won gold in this particular event.

Simone Biles was mobbed by fans and media as she returned home to Dallas, Texas on Thursday following her experience at the Tokyo Olympics. In Tokyo, Biles won silver and bronze but had a challenging Olympics after withdrawing from a number of the events due to mental health reasons after she began to suffer the twisties.
